Barcelona is known all over the world as one of, if not the, top city destination in Spain and though its popularity with couples and younger crowds has always been evident – it’s only recently that families from all over the world have realised the great city’s potential as a family holiday destination. If you’re travelling with the family then we recommend booking a family friendly apartment in Barcelona to make the most of your trip, allowing you complete flexibility in a comfortable atmosphere that will feel like a home from home. To help you plan your itinerary we’ve listed a few of our favourite family-friendly attractions in Barcelona below: Parc d’Atraccions Tibidabo In-between visits to museums and tastes of some of Spain’s finest cuisine we recommend you take the kids to the very top of Tibidabo where you’ll find not just incredible views of the city, but also a funfair, complete with a colourful ferris wheel and a quaint collection of rides for all ages. It dates back to 1889, and as well as the rides there are hourly puppet shows at the Marionetàrium and over the weekends, there are circus parades at the end of the day. In summer there are fireworks and street theatre. Photo by Boris YUE on Unsplash Zoo de Barcelona The Barcelona Zoo is mostly popular due to the regular dolphin shows – but your kids will no doubt fall in love with the giant hippos, rhinos, sea lions, elephants, giraffes, lions and tigers too. Those with very young children might want to take a peek at the farmyard zoo, pony rides, picnic areas and the two excellent playgrounds. If you don’t fancy navigating the zoo by foot then you should take the zoo train. The best time to visit is in Spring when the temperatures are more manageable both for you and the animals – who are kept inside when it’s too cold and can be found hiding away in the shade when it’s too hot. Photo by Jeremy Avery on Unsplash Visit the Beach Barcelona is very lucky to be a city that has over 4km of sandy beaches, so you will be able to combine your busy sightseeing city break with some relaxing sunbathing at the beach. And even better, your children will be entertained for hours playing in the waves and building sandcastles! Barcelona's sunny weather and warm climate means that a day at the beach can easily be enjoyed throughout most of the year, and even if it is too cold to properly relax in the sun, there is still a lovely shoreline to walk along.
