The city of Barcelona is full of amazing sites, meaning you might not have enough time to see them all on your trip (unless you decide to come back, which is a brilliant idea!) Here at ChicRoom Barcelona, we've narrowed down our favourite places to create a handy list of must-see destinations in the city. Enjoy your stay in the Catalan capital!

Park Guell

This masterpiece by world-famous architect Antonio Gaudi was originally meant to be a housing development for the rich. However, when the wealthy class decided they didn’t want to move out of the main hub of the city and into the hills, the area became a public playground. Whilst you’re there, you can also visit the Gaudi house museum, which is where the architectual genius spent his final two decades.

Camp Nou Stadium

If it wasn't home to one of the world's best and most-loved football teams, Barcelona FC, it would still be impressive as it is the 3rd largest football stadium in the world with a capacity of 110,000. You can go to a game or just have a tour around the stadium. Football is such a huge part of life in Barcelona that the football club remains one of the most searched things on google when you search for Barcelona. With that in mind, if you are able to make it to a match during your time in the city, you really should. It’s one of the most stunning sporting venues in Europe and the atmosphere during any given competition is simply electric!

Montjuic Castle

This beautiful sight is sometimes missed and it really shouldn’t be! Up at the castle, you will have a beautiful view over the city as it stands at 173 metres above the port. The castle is full of history and you can enter to explore it. There are also many events, exhibitions and shows held here which you might want to check out before planning a visit up there.

Sant Josep de la Boqueria Market

You will find the market just off of Las Ramblas. It is a market full of food, fruit and vegetables that has grown to be a tourist attraction in Barcelona. You can try some of the local produce or buy some fresh juice. You will also see a lot of locals here buying their produce. It is the largest market in Catalunya and offers both local and exotic products. You should definitely check it out!

Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya and the Magic Fountains

The Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya is an impressive building in itself with incredible views of the city and extensive collections of modern and historic art. Leading up to the Museu there are many fountains and water features which make it a beautiful sight. There is also the Magic Fountain that performs a spectacular display of colour, light, motion, music and water acrobatics. It attracts many visitors every year and should definitely be down as a must see when you come to Barcelona. You can see the show from Wednesdays to Sundays in the summer months and then Thusday to Saturday throughout the rest of the year.

La Sagrada Familia

This is probably one of the most unmissable places to visit in Barcelona! It is one of Gaudi’s most famous works and it now makes up and iconic part of the Barcelona sky line. The building process started in 1881 and has an estimated completion date of 2026. You can venture inside the Sagrada Familia to witness the impressive cathedral not only from the outside but inside. You will need to purchase tickets if you want to do this.

Tibidabo

Tibidabo is the mountain overlooking Barcelona. It provides some impressive views as well as a fun day out for all. You have to make a slight journey up there but it is definitely worth it. This mountain is 516 meters and at its summit you will find a small amusement park that was built in 1899, as well as the famous church that lights up the hills behind Barcelona at night and can be seen all over the city. It is well worth climbing on a sunny day!

Eixample

Take a stroll through Eixample, which lies just north of Plaza Catalunya. Not only is it home to the Sagrada Familia but it is full of various works of Gaudi. For example, if you take a wander up the famous Passeig de Gracia, you will find Casa Batlló as well as La Pedrera. Eixample is also known as one of the trendiest neighbourhood in the city so you will find a lot of bars, restaurants and night clubs that are worth a visit. If you’re an architecture addict, get on an art nouveau tour and discover all the charms of this neighbourhood.
