Our selection of the most beautiful beaches in Catalonia.

Blog

Culture, festive atmosphere, cosmopolitanism, gastronomy … Barcelona can boast of many things! But, its location on the coast is surely one its biggest assets! So when we think of beaches to visit near to the city, we immediately think of the often overcrowded beach of Barceloneta that is on the city's doorstep. However, this north-eastern corner of Spain has so much more to offer and here at ChicRoom Barcelona, we would like to give you a little help in finding a perfect stretch of paradise on your holiday. Here is a list of the best beaches near Barcelona, Maresme, Sitges and on the Costa Brava for you to explore during your summer in Spain.

Playa de los Pescadores (Badalona)

For those who don't want to move too far from the city, the Beaches of Badalona can be a good alternative! Far from the crowds of Barceloneta, you can find a little more tranquillity over here. It is even accessible by metro! By taking the line 2 (purple) from Passeig de Gracia, you will reach it in just over 40 minutes.

Maresme

San Pol de Mar

San Pol de Mar is located on the coast of Maresme, near Calella and about fifty kilometres north of Barcelona. it is one of the nicest beach resorts in northern Barcelona. Well-equipped and with a pleasant city centre, its beaches attract many tourists and inhabitants from neighbouring towns. This beach is renowned for its charm but also for its proximity to Barcelona which is connected directly by a railway line.

Canet de Mar

Easily accessible by foot or bike, you will find everything that makes up a wonderful beach here, including clear, turquoise blue waters. If nature fascinates you, you will be very pleased, as plants typical of the Catalan littoral can be found here, including sea fennel, sea rocket, yellow poppy of sands and even agave of America! This beach also remembers to include the sportsmen with its many sports facilities to help you make the most of your day at the beach, for example, beach volleyball courts.

Costa Brava

Cadaqués

If Cadaqués holds a strong place in our list of top beaches, it is especially due to the charm of its town with its whitewashed houses, narrow alleys and many small squares. Its main beaches are beautiful, although you may not appreciate the pebbles, and for this reason, we suggest you spend time discovering the surrounding coast that hides many pleasant sandy coves, such as Cap de Creus (pictured below). You may even be lucky enough to find it deserted!

Tossa de Mar

In Tossa de Mar, you have the beach and … a model for your sandcastle with this magnificent medieval castle overlooking the beach and dating from the 12th century. After a day of sunbathing and swimming, why not go exploring this beautiful medieval building?

Calella de Palafrugell

One might think that time has stopped in this beautiful little village on the coast. Calella de Palafrugell is a former fishing village and for those who like the typical little streets and traditional places, you have to go for a look. The explorers among you will be delighted to walk along the small paths along the coast to discover a multitude of small secret coves.

Cala Futadera

Cala Futadera is a gem of the Costa Brava. All of its characteristics will amaze you, from the cove surrounded by rocks to the crystal clear waters tp the pine forests to the sea. The view from the top of the creek is breathtaking as you can really see the contrast between the turquoise waters and the green pines, as well as pale pink rocks.

Costa Dorada

Altafulla

Stretching from Cap Gros to La Roca del Gaía, Altufell beach is 1,100 meters long and 20 meters wide. It was by hosting international sailing championships that it became popular. 100 km from Barcelona, this beautiful beach is only 9 minutes by train from Tarragona.

Torn

Torn is a gift from nature and we can't recommend this beach enough. This beach in Vandellós is very well maintained, it is cleaned regularly despite its relative isolation. You can enjoy the beautiful fine sand and climb the rocks to enjoy the view.

Riumar

Riumar- where the river meets the sea. You will find this pristine beach on the end of El Garxal, a protected natural area that borders the mouth of the Ebro river. Along the promenade, as you go to Riumar, you will find charming little dunes, protected by the local authorities.

Platja Llarga

This is the main resort of the Costa Dorada de Salou, but it does not stop it from being tranquil and family-friendly. Its Platja Llarga is quite long and admittedly you will find some urban constructions but you will also be enchanted by a beautiful forest of pines. It could be called a semi-urban beach.

Cala Fonda

The picture speaks for itself, doesn’t it? This pretty cove is actually called Waikiki. To reach it, head towards the north of Platja Llarga and walk past the Bosc de la Marquesa. The bus lines 9 and 1E will drop you a few steps from Cala Fonda.

Tamarit

This is a typical beach of the Costa Dorada. The beach is located in the centre of a privileged environment, surrounded by a large pine forest. You can even enjoy great views of the Castle of Tamarit and the church of the Assumpta. The beach owes its name to the castle.

Cala Becs

This beach is located right next to Tarragona and you just cannot miss it. The views from the pine forest are amazing. There are several small coves nearby where you can enjoy the sun and bathe in the Mediterranean sea.
